I have visited the Art-Navat Gallery few times being in Almaty. I found it to be an interesting one. The Gallery management is obviously to have done their best to introduce local classical and modern masters. It is also possible to purchase art pieces. If you happen to be in Almaty, you may also look if the Gallery holds one of their thematic exhibitions.
